Dr. Adeeb Khalid is the Jane and Raphael Bernstein Professor of Asian Studies and History at Carleton College. The recipient of numerous awards, including a Carnegie and a Guggenheim, Dr. Khalid is a specialist on the transformation of religion, culture, and identity in Tsarist, Soviet, and independent Central Asia. He is the author of The Politics of Muslim Cultural Reform: Jadidism in Central Asia (University of California Press, 1998) and Islam after Communism: Religion and Politics in Central Asia (University of California Press, 2007), which received the prestigious Wayne S. Vucinich Book Prize.
